Swimming Competition between Desert Cubs Swimming Academy and Aquatic Team

The Annual Invitational Swimming Competition between

Desert Cubs Swimming Academy and Aquatic Team

The annual friendly competition between Desert Cubs Swimming Academy and Aquatic Team took place on Saturday 10th December 2016 at Al Naser Swimming Complex. It was an anxious and much looked forward event for Desert Cubs swimmers and parents as it came before the heat and exhaustions of Desert Cubs annual Sports Days’ sprits cooled-off.  The event was limited up to under 13 age categories and swimmers competed in age groups of U9, U11 & U13 in Freestyle, Breast stroke, Back stroke, and Butterfly stroke. The competition concluded with a grand open relay for boys and girls, which brought all spectators to their feet and the voice decibels beyond their controls.  All winners were awarded medals and certificates at the end of the event in the midst of cheers and applauds.

Off the pool, there was a great deal of anxiety, enthusiasm and celebrations, which echoed and swept the atmosphere.  The parents and grandparents forgot to blink their eyes when their children were on the starting blocks, while well-wishers and friends joined the moments with cheers, celebrations, and words of comforts.  The cameras of professional nature and cameras on mobile devises rolled and snapped every action and everyone did not forget to cheer and encourage the swimmers who had determination and courage to complete the event even if they were not in the lead. This emulated an environment of all kids are loved by all, irrespective of which club they represented.

The swimmers were motivated to invoke their competitive instincts at the early ages through this competition. Desert Cubs swimmers were on a learning platform to adopt and perform in an unknown territory away from their own familiar environment.  They had to make adjustment to different situations and context of the pool, and had to counter the aggression and intimidating competitiveness of home team.  This event no doubt showed them the reality of competitive environment that they need to prepare apart from regular preparation for their event.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience for kids and this kind of regular competition will be pivotal for developing competitive swimmer for future.  As parents, we look forward for more competitions with external clubs to be part of the annual calendar. We thank the Desert Cubs coaches and management for providing such a platform and we as parents will be happy to extend our support for the betterment of these young children’s sporting career.

A note of appreciation is imperative for the Aquatic Team for organizing the event and we wish to thank every officials, volunteers and parents for the commitment, encouragement and sporting sprit displayed all throughout the evening.

“It was an eventful evening with lots to take back for everyone.”
